The Environmental Quality Objective
The value of forests and forest land for biological production must be protected, at the same time as biological diversity and cultural heritage recreational assets are safe-guarded.
This environmental quality objective means that:
- The natural production capacity of the forest soil must be preserved.
- The natural functions and processes of forest ecosystems must be maintained.
- Native species of plants and animals must survive in natural conditions and in viable populations.
- Endangered species and landscape types must be protected.
- Alien species and genetically modified organisms that may threaten biological diversity must not be introduced.
- Historical monuments and the cultural environment must be protected.
- The value of the forest for aesthetic experiences and recreation must be considered and utilised.
(The Environmental Quality Objective is approved by the Swedish Parliament in April 1999)
